In Kent
009 model-railways narrow-gaugeFriday night saw the inaugural meeting of the new Kent group of the OO9 Society, hosted by fellow blogger and modeller Tom. There was a good turn-out of around 10 people, and Tom’s dining table was quickly filled with excellent examples of OO9 modelling (and a few larger scale interlopers).
Charles Insley brought some of his 4mm scale High Weald Light Railway stock, so we could make a comparison with my 7mm versions. At the moment he is concentrating on a new French 60cm gauge layout (also represented on the table above) but if the planned HWLR layout is built it’s definitely off to a good start from what I saw.
One of the most interesting models on the night was this exquisite Saltford Models “Warill” 18″ gauge Hunslet, long unavailable and hardly mass-produced in the first place. This was brought along by someone who had inherited a large OO9 collection from a friend, and was only one of a great number of well-made 70s era kits. Hopefully they will get a layout to run on now there is a bit of momentum with a new group.
The Kent group will be meeting again on the 23rd April in the Maidstone area. Details will be in the OO9 News, or let me know if you’re interested in coming along.
